Visits by Mexican presidents to the U.S. have become so frequent, and so predictable, that this one almost passed my by. But Presidente Felipe Calderon was just here in the U.S., in New York City and Washington, D.C., and I feel it´s my duty to report that fact on VDARE.COM. According to PR Newswire:

President of Mexico Felipe Calderon completed a successful trip to the United States this week that focused on environmental sustainability in Mexico and the importance of bilateral relations with the United States.

On Tuesday, May 10, President Calderon was honored by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) for his leadership in addressing climate change at both global and national levels. The UNEP awarded Calderon its 2011 Champions of the Earth prize for hosting the 2010 U.N. Climate Change Conference in Cancun, and for promoting the creation of a Green Climate Fund to help developing countries to adapt to climate change … On Wednesday, May 11, President Calderon delivered the keynote address at the 41st Annual Washington Conference of the Americas. The speech was delivered at the Benjamin Franklin Diplomatic Reception Hall of the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. The Council of the Americas (COA) is the premier international business organization whose members share a common commitment to economic and social development, open markets, the rule of law, and democracy throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Universal, Mexico’s paper of record, recorded for posterity some quotes from Calderon on this latest trip to the U.S.

Calderon said that "I recognize the effort of President Obama to boost the migratory issue." By "migratory issue", Calderon means amnesty for illegal aliens. The Mexican president appreciates that.

Another gem from Calderon:

"The current immigration situation is broken, it has become a bottleneck that impedes the growth and prosperity of the region." [Las 13 Frases de FCH en Estados Unidos, El Universal, May 13, 2011]Just like open border promoters in the U.S., by "broken" he means that the porous border is not quite porous enough for his tastes.
