From The New York Times:

Jokeless in Philadelphia

By Frank Bruni

PHILADELPHIA — There’s a group of people possibly more nervous than the speakers slated to address an arena of thousands — and a television audience of millions — at the Democratic National Convention.

The comedians who have to make fun of it.

The Republican gathering in Cleveland last week gave them an all-you-can-eat buffet of ridicule-ready characters and moments, and they gorged ecstatically on it, leading to a few of the best nights of political satire in recent television history.

Now comes the Democratic get-together.

It could be a vegan diet.

“You wish they had been in the opposite order,” Seth Meyers, the host of “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” told me. “Every stand-up wants to close with his strongest material, and that might not be the case this week.” …

I suspect that the rise of Trump has something to do with the self-inflicted Humor Drought of the Obama Era.

I always come back to the test case that the President lives with his mother-in-law, and yet, last I checked a few years ago, I couldn’t find a single joke about that on Google.
