As you’ll recall, the New York Times and the rest of the New York-based national media much more enthusiastically jumped into the Michael Brown killing in distant Ferguson than into the choking of the cigarette peddler by the NYPD, only splashing the local story after watching Ferguson turn into a fiasco … which then turned out so catastrophically for Mayor De Blasio, validating the original judgment that it’s more prudent to whip up racial resentments far away from New York City, where important people live.
