October 31 — Hurricane Sandy Interfering With Polls — Romney’s White Share (Probably) 58 Percent

By James Fulford

10/31/2012

Owing to Hurricane Sandy, RealClearPolitics polls have not been updated since the 28th.

Rasmussen Reports is in bad shape, with Asbury Park, New Jersey still under water, but they have released a presidential poll for Wednesday

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 49% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 47%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) remain undecided. See daily tracking history.

Sixteen percent (16%) of white Democrats now support Romney. "

Romney is not the kind of candidate to appeal to Reagan Democrats. Obama, on the other hand, has been getting the votes of black Republicans like Colin Powell.

Platinum Subscribers to Rasmussen can view the crosstabs, but they don’t appear to have been updated since Monday.

I did find one or two stories that mentioned the white vote — here’s one:

No Democratic nominee has won a majority of white voters since President Lyndon Johnson overwhelmed Republican challenger Barry Goldwater in his 1964 landslide. All of this deserves more examination. Obama Coming Up Short With White Voters, By Kenneth T. Walsh, U. S. News,October 29, 2012

“More examination” — which is what you’ve been getting from VDARE.com, and not a lot of other polaces.

Actually it’s worse than Walsh says — the Democrats couldn’t win the majority of the white vote in the elections of Truman (1948) and JFK (1960) who won, and of course not in the intervening elections that Adlai Stevenson lost to Eisenhower.

According to James Kirkpatrick, the last time the Democratic nominee won a majority of the white vote was FDR’s Fourth Term election in 1944.
