See, earlier: The Immigrants Who Bring Their Slaves To America, And The Press That Doesn’t Want You To Know
From the New York Times:
By Jacey Fortin
May 9, 2019A New Jersey woman was convicted Thursday of forcing a Sri Lankan woman to work without pay for nine years, causing her to overstay her visa, and marrying her in an attempt to keep her in the country.
A jury found the defendant, Alia Imad Faleh Al Hunaity, 43, guilty on charges of forced labor, alien harboring for financial gain and marriage fraud. The jury had deliberated for two hours after a six-day trial before Judge Robert B. Kugler of the United States District Court in Camden.
Prosecutors did not name the victim, who they said took care of the woman’s children and cleaned her house, and was largely hidden from the outside world. They said she came to the United States on a temporary visa in 2009.
“The defendant in this case treated the victim as a slave,” United States Attorney Craig Carpenito said in a statement from the Justice Department. “Al-Hunaity kept the victim in this country illegally and hid her away, in order to force her to perform household work for Al-Hunaity without pay, privacy, or the ability to move about freely.”
Have you ever noticed how in these cases of immigrants keeping slaves in the U.S., the perps are almost always identified by their state of residence?
New Jersey woman! Vermont couple! Florida man!
For example, from The New York Times last month:
Texas Couple Get 7 Years in Prison for Enslaving Guinean Girl for 16 Years
By Mihir Zaveri, April 23, 2019
A couple who enslaved a Guinean girl for 16 years at their Dallas-area home, forcing her to cook and clean while calling her a “dog,” were each sentenced Monday to seven years in federal prison, the authorities said.
The couple, Mohamed Toure, 58, and Denise Cros-Toure, 58, of Southlake, Tex., who are citizens of Guinea, may be deported after their prison sentence, prosecutors said. They were also ordered to pay almost $290,000 in restitution.
They were found guilty by a federal jury in January of several crimes, including one count each of forced labor.
Mr. Toure is the son of Guinea’s first president, Ahmed Sékou Touré, who led the West African country for 26 years until his death in 1984.
Mr. Toure is such a deep-rooted son of Texas that his dad, the Dictator-for-Life, founded an African country. Here’s this Texas man’s father on the cover of Time Magazine in 1959 to represent “Black Africa: The Dawn of Self Rule.”
And here Texas Man’s dad telling President Charles de Gaulle to shove it, that independent Guinea would not be part of a “French Community” of ex-colonies, a renunciation much admired by black power advocates in the 1960s.
