Onboard Birthright Citizenship

A Ugandan woman just gave birth on a Boston-bound flight from Amsterdam. And it appears that two Indian doctors onboard delivered the baby.

"It was wonderful," Dr. Paresh Thakker told the Boston Herald. ”Happy New Year for everybody in the family.” [New Year’s Eve surprise: Woman gives birth on Boston-bound plane, By Jessica Heslam, December 31, 2008 ]

However, I’m sure many other passengers did not agree and recognized it as yet another instance of an immigrant giving birth to an anchor baby mid-flight.

Unfortunately, the woman just missed. According to the Boston Herald, the baby was born in Canadian airspace, and so the child is Canadian.

The Herald also claims that the woman is a legal immigrant, but I have my doubts. Either way, both mother and child appear to ringing in the New Year at taxpayer expense. Happy New Year.
