When I had been out in the field for a few years and the Iraq war was going on, CBP had a program where they flew in Customs Inspectors from God forsaken places like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to show them how the professionals at CBP did things. At the end of their training, our boat patrol would take out the Customs Inspectors for a trip along the Rio Grande. It was public relations and we viewed it as a pain in the ass since it took us away from patrolling the border by loading them up and entertaining them. Not to mention that a lot of them were unfamiliar with the miracle that is soap and deodorant.
In any case, we once had a group of Ukrainian Border Guards we were showing about. Yes, they were part of the military. One of the Ukrainians asked one of our boat Agents, what happens if an alien runs from you and gets away? Our Agent responded, “Nothing. It’s try again tomorrow.” The Ukrainian said that under their system you get a reprimand. He then asked, “What happens if another alien gets away from you?” Our Agent responded, “Again, nothing. It’s try again the next day.” The Ukrainian said that under their system you would get docked pay. The Ukrainian asked what happened if you lost aliens a third time. Our Agent explained that our Agents were not punished for such lapses. The Ukrainian said at that point, you would be fired from the job. So, our Agent asked what would happen if the alien was simply too fast for you to catch. The Ukrainian responded, “That’s easy. You shoot.”
So, here we have two systems. One in which Agents trying to enforce the law are given the harshest of punishments in our system, and the other where Border Guards (they are part of the Ukrainian military) are reprimanded for not using lethal force.
I read online sometimes in the comments section and I hear the frustration in commenters who sometimes advocate for Italian Navy ships to run over infiltrator boats. It’s not likely to happen anytime soon with Western values.
However, over in Israel, as VDARE.com has documented, the Israelis shoot to maim invaders (mostly with .22 rifles).

This sometimes results in their deaths.
In addition, Saudi Arabia has reportedly killed hundreds of Ethiopian invaders. Saudi border guards killed 100s of Ethiopian migrants: HRW, August 21, 2023.
