Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-CO) spoke at Colorado State University-Pueblo last Monday night. Roughly 25 people gathered in front of the school to protest Tancredo’s presence on campus.
The signs said "End ethnic cleansing" and "Don’t fence us out Tom." I don’t think anyone really understood the message that was being sent, primarily because there didn’t appear to be one, but a few protestors seemed to resent Tancredo’s position on immigration.
Jose Esteban Ortega, a member of La Gente por La Raza, said he attended to "stand up for the people who can’t stand up for themselves."
That would mean he and Congressman Tancredo have a lot in common. ["Tancredo talk draws protests," by Amy Matthew The Pueblo Chieftain, March 8, 2005]
