Rand Paul Claims He Scuttled Away From Illegals To Do Media Interview — But Who With?

Allegations that Rand Paul scuttled out of a confrontation with one of Obama’s pet illegal DREAMer are pretty universal. I linked to them yesterday in Rand Paul Runs Away From DREAMer; Steve King Speaks Truth To Power.
As they have done with several Republican politicians, some DREAMers confronted Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) at an event in Iowa this week.

Actually, they introduced themselves to both King and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), who was sitting down for a meal at the same table. Paul shook their hand and began eating his hamburger, but as the DREAMers made clear what they had come to talk about, he stood up from the table and walked away.

Politico has him denying that he was running away:
Sen. Rand Paul is pushing back against allegations that he ducked a discussion with DREAMers, saying he left a table in Iowa to do a media interview and that he had no time for a “Kamikaze interview” that was documented in a widely distributed video.

The Kentucky Republican on Tuesday evening said that just minutes before that video began, a reporter asked him for an interview while he was eating. “And I said, I need to take a couple more bites and we’ll do an interview,” Paul said on Fox News. “And then I was told we had to leave and I had to do the interview, so actually, I stood 10 feet from the people who were doing sort of a kamikaze interview, and I stood 10 feet from them and did another interview.”

So who was this interview with? Curiously, Paul hasn’t said.

On a number of issues (civil rights, Political Incorrectness, foreign policy, et cetera) Rand Paul has seemed to have the characteristics of a natural scuttler, but judge for yourself.

Here he is, coincidentally running away.

Steve King, who did not run away, issued a statement speaking more truth to power.

In a statement issued after the video’s release, King remained defiant, slamming “professional activists” who resort to “ambush” tactics.

“This situation perfectly illustrates the Leftist model of attack: personalize, polarize, distort facts, ambush, and prey on people’s emotions,” the congressman said in the statement. “I’m willing to engage in thoughtful dialog whenever possible and I’m obligated to educate members of our society, legal or illegal. Iowans and Americans want border security and the Rule of Law. I will stand on those principles whether confronted by professional activists or Harvard lawyers.

And as I said last night, if you think that it’s odd to speak of a Congressman speaking “truth to power” to an ambushing illegal alien activist, remember that she’s part of conspiracy that includes the leadership of King’s own party, and that Harvard lawyer, the President of the United States.
