Apropos of my last two posts explaining why Catholics can vote for The Donald, Michael Matt, editor of The Remnant, lays out the case in detail, starting with explaining the moral principle “double effect,” that is, “when it is morally permissible to perform an action in pursuit of a good end in full knowledge that the action will also bring about bad results.”

Ferrara quotes Pope Pius XII on the subject of voting, and the “moral duty” of Catholics to vote against Italian Communist candidates in the 1940s. Not to so vote, the pope said, was a mortal sin.
