After New Hampshire, Mitt Romney will presumably be the GOP nominee (yawn). We don’t have much to add to Washington Watcher’s point last week: Romney is actually not the worst on immigration, but that’s not saying a lot, and who knows what he will actually do. Rick Oltman has a powerful column (A Warning to the G.O.P., San Francisco Examiner, January 10, 2011) pointing out that, by ignoring immigration and other issues that motivate its base, the GOP risks a McCain-style turnout slump. But, personally, I don’t think the Beltway Right will listen — or is capable of listening. The GOP may still win in November, but it’s terminally corrupt.
