Sherman and Berman Get Physical over Amnesty Cred

Only in Mexifornia! Two dueling Democrats nearly came to blows over who is the better advocate of open borders and rewards for invasive foreigners against the well being of American citizens.

Actually, it was the younger taller Rep. Brad Sherman who put a modified headlock on the older shorter Rep. Howard Berman, with Sherman saying “Do you want to get into this?” But no noogies were forthcoming.

In particular, the two were arguing about which was more supportive of the dreadful DREAM Act amnesty for “young people” and whoever else can pass the age limitations.

Both are full-tilt shills of La Raza (aka “The Race” for all you English speakers), voting consistently in their lengthy House careers for illegal aliens. Howard Berman (a member of the House since 1983) has a lifetime voting grade of F from NumbersUSA. Brad Sherman (a member since 1997) has a lifetime voting grade of D from Numbers. So the differences between them are slight.

But the harsh reality of redistricting has brought them to the point of fierce arguments over which candidate can Mexicanize America faster and with increased costs to taxpayer citizens.

Interestingly, the open-borders gang piped up in the media over the following days to opine on who was better for their side.

The Jewish Journal of Greater LA presented a very lengthy item with headache-inducing detail, Berman did write DREAM Act, immigration activists say, contradicting Sherman’s heated denials.

More readable is The Hill’s reporting, with liberal quotage from expert anti-sovereignty Congressman Luis Gutierrez (he of the amnesty bus tour).

Rep. Gutierrez defends Berman on DREAM Act, The Hill, October 12, 2012

Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.) received back-up from a fellow congressman after an argument about the DREAM Act spurred an altercation with Democratic rival Rep. Brad Sherman Thursday in California.? ?Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said there is no question that Berman introduced and took the lead on the bill that would grant citizenship to children brought to the country illegally if they enroll in college or join the military.? ?”When I am in Los Angeles next week campaigning for Howard Berman’s reelection, I will tell everyone that I support Howard Berman because of his authorship of the DREAM Act and the crucial, leadership role Howard Berman has played in every major piece of immigration legislation under consideration in the House. Howard is our champion,” Gutierrez said in a statement.? ?Sherman accused Berman of taking credit for the DREAM Act, which he said was sponsored by Gutierrez at the debate at Pierce College.

“Luis Gutierrez introduced the bill. You didn’t. And the official records of Congress will prove you wrong,” Sherman shouted at one point.? ?However, Berman introduced the bill, which Sherman, Gutierrez and 114 other members cosponsored. In the Republican-controlled House, the bill hasn’t made it out of committee.

Gutierrez clarified that he had introduced the initial version of the DREAM Act years ago, but the one that passed the House in 2010 and the one introduced in the 112th Congress belongs to Berman.

“I was the first to introduce a bill that legalized undocumented students many years ago, but the DREAM Act that passed the House and the DREAM Act that the House has considered for more than a decade is Berman and [Sen. Dick] Durbin’s [D-Ill.] bill,” he said.

The Sherman campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

Berman and Sherman are locked in a member vs. member race that has been marked by its nastiness.? ?It got physical Thursday at a debate when a shouting match in which Sherman put his arm around his opponent asking, “You want to get into this?” The situation was quickly diffused by a sheriff’s officer.? ?Previously in the exchange, Berman had called his opponent “delusional.”? ?”Luis Gutierrez introduced the bill. You didn’t. And the official records of Congress will prove you wrong, “ Sherman shouted at one point.? ?Berman can be heard saying, “Wrong. Wrong.”? ?Standing opposite one another, Berman walked towards Sherman.? ?”Don’t you dare stand up here … [in the] … San Fernando Valley and get in my face,” Sherman shouts.? ?That is when Sherman grabs Berman around the shoulder and asks, “Do you want to get into this?”

The Berman campaign quickly posted two press releases on its website, one titled “Has Brad Sherman lost his mind?” and said the events prove Sherman is unsuitable to hold public office.? ?Sherman’s campaign shot back that his opponent had wildly exaggerated the incident and that Berman initiated it by calling him a “liar and delusional.”? ?Berman holds an impressive amount of endorsements from lawmakers in the Democratic race, including Gutierrez. But a poll released by a local TV station, KABC, last month showed Sherman with a 13-point lead.
