As my readers will remember, many of my recent columns have been asking this simple question: How can our government permit the importation of 100,000 aliens per month on various special work visas when 25 million Americans are either unemployed, underemployed, or no longer looking for jobs?
The people running for the highest office in the land have yet to answer that question, partly because our sad MSM has not asked the question in any major public forum that I am aware of. If I have missed one, please let me know!
Dan Stein, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), and his staff see all manner of dreadful abuses of immigration rules and practices, reporting on as many as possible.
On October 21th, Dan sent me one which, while not numerically in the 100,000 a month work visa category, certainly bids fair (pun intended) to be on a special list of stupid immigration enforcement failures.
As he noted, “Here’s one for the all time record books!!!”This item, which appears below, was unearthed by FAIR’s able Director of Special Projects, Jack Martin, who dubbed it the “Outrage of the day”.
Unfortunately, abuses are the stuff of daily fare in the USA. But this AP story caught Jack’s eye as especially egregious. I am sure it will yours too.
“Stimulus funds paid foreign workers in OregonThe Associated Press, October 21, 2011
PORTLAND, Ore. — A federal investigation found that at least $7 million in federal stimulus money intended to provide jobs for unemployed Oregonians instead paid wages to 254 foreign workers.
The Oregonian reports the money went for forest cleanup jobs in central Oregon in 2009 when unemployment was over 11 percent.
Contractors told federal regulators they could not find enough local workers for the jobs and brought in foreign workers. (My note: The AP story doesn’t note which work visa category allowed these 254 to be hired)
A report this week from the Labor Department’s inspector general found the contractors used legal loopholes but violated no laws or regulations. (My note: Obama has been most friendly to alien advocates and has failed to enforce where he should have.)
Congressman Peter DeFazio, who asked for the investigation, says it’s 'obscene that U.S. companies were rewarded for abusing our American workers and immigration laws to undercut competition and squeeze more profits out of contracts.'”
Hey, Oregon state officials, did all of your high school and college kids have summer jobs in 2009? Did none of those folks drawing welfare get asked about this entry level work opportunity?
When will outrageous things like this stop? Only when we America citizens begin to vote out elected officials who implant outrages such as sanctuary cities, who fail to enact new rules such as E-Verify with no preemption clause, and who stop trying at every turn to force Dream Acts on beleaguered fellow citizens because these feckless politicos have the right to spend tax dollars which should go to benefit taxpayers.
And this short list of these types of vote buying acts could go on and on, but suffice to say, enforcing existing laws about illegal immigrants would be a small start.
Losing the Rule of Law is a big deal, folks, and we are well on the way to the kind of chaos that brings.
