Suspicious Job Ads At Texas Instruments

Employers sometimes have no intention of hiring Americans so they code their job ads in such as way that everyone gets the message that "no American is wanted for this job". You can see some examples by going to these web pages: "Job Advertisements Us Citizens Need Not Apply!!!", "PERM Fake Job Ads in Sunday June 24, 2007 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review", or go to the Job Destruction Newsletter and search the archive for all subject titles with "job ad" in them. I have been covering these job ads in the newsletter for years so you won’t have any shortage of examples.

So, Texas Instruments has two job ads on their web site that are worthy of attention. Excerpts of the ads are below. To view the entire ad go to the TI online career center and enter the job ID or job title into their search engine.

Note: at the time of this writing the entire TI website is down, so I can’t go back to verify that the ads are still there. Looks like the offshored TI IT team isn’t so bright after all!

Three examples of job ads are presented below. You decide if TI coded the ads for foreigners only. It could nothing more than innocent typos because only two ads of this kind were found in the database — or it could be something more sinister. A comment is included before each ad delineated by brackets [].

Job Ad #1

[This is a typical TI job ad. At the end it says "Equal Employment Opportunity". That’s standard boilerplate all companies say nowadays. It is meant to assure non-white minorities that they will be first in line for this job.]

Job Title: METROLOGY PROCESS ENGINEER Job ID: 35500 Location: TX, Dallas Metroplex Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular

Proven skill set and interest in developing and transferring metrology methodology into production is needed. The person in this position must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, fab environment with multiple shifting priorities and have the ability to work well on cross functional teams and closely with the customer.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Equal Employment Opportunity Texas Instruments is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Job Ad #2

[This ad has a little surprise at the end (look for the red font). After "Equal Employment Opportunity" it says TI India, even though the job is located in Manchester, NH.]

Job Title: HR MGR Job ID: 34418 Location: NH, Manchester Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular

This manager will work in a team environment with leadership teams of each TI organization and will also team with the various HR people required to do the job, making the ability to work effectively with senior management, HR teams, engineering and finance very important. This person will need to thrive in a collaborative team environment to be successful. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Equal Employment Opportunity Texas Instruments India is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Job Ad #3

[This is ad is even more suspicious than the second example (look for the red font). Before "Equal Employment Opportunity" it lists as a required skill "cross-cultural team environment". In today’s politically correct climate my guess is that whoever gets the job should expect to work with foreigners from India and the Islamic Middle East, since TI Dallas hires large numbers of them with H-1B visas. If that big hint doesn’t discourage an American applicant it is followed by TI India, even though the job is advertised for Dallas Metroplex, TX. Get the hint?]

Job Title: DIGITAL IC PHYSICAL DESIGN ENGINEER Job ID: 34664 Location: TX, Dallas Metroplex Full/Part Time: Full-Time Regular/Temporary: Regular

We're searching for a motivated self-starter who can manage multiple priorities and set realistic plans based on required tasks, available resources and schedule. This engineer must perform well in a crossfunctional, cross-cultural team environment and with internal customers. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by! Equal Employment Opportunity Texas Instruments India is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
