Earlier: UK Tory Leadership: White Males Need Not Apply. Will It Work?
I’m reading William Makepeace Thackeray’s 1840s page-turner Vanity Fair. Thackeray likes on the nose Anglo-Saxon surnames, such as that Becky Sharp is really sharp. Liz Truss sounds like she’d have a constrained prime ministership, while Penelope Mordaunt, with her Norman French name, sounds sarcastic and unconstrained.
