I was flipping through radio stations the other day when I happened on Fox Business News (I think Varney & Company) talking to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton about the border crisis. Paxton pointed out that the Texas National Guard has taken over one single park on the border and the Biden administration is freaked out about it. However, it’s easy enough for the illegal aliens to cross on either side of the park. So, why in the world is the Biden administration so freaked out about this?
My conclusion is that the Feds are worried that Texas might continue to expand this program all along the border unless the state is stopped. There is no clearer example that the current administration’s policy is to keep the border open than this. All the Mayorkas administration need do is just go around the park, and illegal aliens are doing just that.
The Border Patrol Union is even supporting Texas in this fight.

When I was studying criminal justice, the idea of hot spots was very much in discussion. A hot spot was an area where more crime occurred than in other areas. There may be a park in the inner city or a playground that gets overtaken by gang members and drug dealers at night. Lots of 911 calls come in about the location. Rather than wait for a 911 call, the thinking was to have cops permanently there so as to preemptively take care of it.
When this was done, the statistics on paper showed fewer 911 calls, thus a reduction in crime. There was some controversy among police officers that the statistics didn’t reflect the reality on the ground. The drug dealers and gangbangers would move to other areas or be less visible in their narcotics dealing, but they didn’t stop their criminal ways.
The Border Patrol tried some of this modern thinking; however, our border is more like a military operation than policing a large city. When they erected more border fencing in San Diego, it pushed the illegal aliens farther east into Arizona, but it didn’t stop them from coming. As with trying to stave off a military invasion, you cannot fortify half the city, but leave large parts undefended. The enemy will just hit you where you are weak, and that was my experience.
We occasionally did operations near our Port of Entry (POE), where the majority of our apprehensions were. However, each time we did that, we left large parts of our Area of Operations (AOR) completely neglected. Once the smugglers figured out where our Agents were deployed and where they weren’t (they did use scouts on our side of the border), then they just went to where we were not.
So, while Governor Abbott and Mayorkas engage in a pissing match, the invasion continues.
