Maybe that was a stunt to boost ratings? Or did one famous black star (Will Smith) just punch another one (Chris Rock) live on the Oscar broadcast for telling a joke referencing the hair loss condition of his wife (Jada Pinckett-Smith)?
In response, Rep. Ayanna Pressley of the Squad declared that all is fair in love and World War Hair:

Update: The difference between a punch and a slap is worth noting. A slap stings, but isn’t likely to do permanent brain damage.
According to the Code Duello, a slap is the proper aristocratic response to an insult to one’s honor or, especially, to the honor of one’s wife.
The notion of one leading citizen slapping another leading citizen for insulting his wife would have been seen as perfectly reasonable in pre-Civil War America.

But that was a long time ago.
In Hollywood history, lots of famous white guys have struck each other. For instance, at a 1945 party at David O. Selznick’s estate, Errol Flynn and John Huston, both sweet on the late Olivia De Havilland (1916-2020), famously whaled on each other.
On the other hand, most of the famous feuds in white Hollywood came to blows off-camera. The degree of megalomania that would lead Will Smith, the Best Actor frontrunner, to do this live on global TV seems to be a black specialty, especially in the Current Year.
