The Stupid Party In Action: Ed Gillespie Wishes VA Muslims A Happy Ramadan

Like the rest of the stupid politicians in the Stupid Party, Ed Gillespie, the Republican Senate candidate running against incumbent Democrat Sen. Mark Warner, believes it’s a good idea to show solidarity with the Old Dominion’s Muslim population.

Thus did Gillespie offer the obligatory Ramadan greeting

As my Islamic friends begin observing Ramadan tomorrow night, I wish them and all in their community a blessed month. The freedom to express one’s faith and worship is one of our most cherished freedoms. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom ‘that all men shall be free to profess, and by argument to maintain, their opinion in matters of religion, and that the same shall in no wise diminish, enlarge, or affect their civil capacities.’ As Muslims around our Commonwealth, and across the globe, abstain from their physical needs to refocus on their faith, I hope they have a blessed and peaceful Ramadan.

Whether Gillespie includes Ahmed Abu Ali, the "Virginia man" convicted of trying to assassinate Bush 43, we are not given to know. A friend wrote this to me:
I’m trying to imagine the conversation between Gillespie and his campaign that led to this email.

AIDE: "We don’t want to lose the Muslim vote! Whatever can we do?"

GILLESPIE: "I know. I could wish them all a happy Ramadan!"

AIDE: "Brilliant!"

What a boob.
That about sums it up.
