"And then I told the primary voters, I'd stand up for American workers!"

Senate Democrats stopped the unholy alliance between Barack Obama and the Republican Senate leadership on granting the President extraordinary authority to negotiate the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, which would have opened the door for more immigration, remove authority over trade policy from Congress, and further punish American workers.

Democrats, including several who favor Obama’s trade agenda, banded together to prevent the Senate from considering legislation that grants the president so-called Trade Promotion Authority, which would bar Congress from amending or filibustering trade agreements negotiated by the administration. Fifty-two senators voted to start debate on the bill, short of the 60 needed to overcome a Democratic filibuster. Forty-five senators voted against the plan.

The fast-track bill is seen as essential to passing the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a secretive trade deal the Obama administration is negotiating with 11 other Asian-Pacific countries. Obama’s rejection at the hands of his own party follows his bitterpublic feud with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) over his trade agenda. Republican leaders in the House and Senate support both TPA and TPP.

It’s a sign of the times when a Democratic Senator from Ohio can consolidate the opposition to trade deal by saying the nation’s first black President is being sexist towards women, specifically Senator "Fauxcahontas," Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
[Ohio Democratic Senator Sherrod] Brown was the only senator to sign a letter with Warren firing back at Obama, after the president accused her and other trade critics of being "dishonest" about the trade debate.

Brown scolded Obama for his comments toward Warren, calling it “disrespectful” by “referring to her as her first name, when he might not have done that for a male senator, perhaps?"

But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that he will try again, perhaps as soon as this week.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) may try again this week to advance President Barack Obama’s ambitious trade agenda, his spokesman told The Huffington Post.

All it will take is a little cooperation, spearheaded by Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), the leaders of their parties on the Senate Finance Committee who crafted the original deal to grant Obama the fast-track authority he needs to get his enormous trade deals through a reluctant Congress.

“This doesn’t have to be the end of the story," McConnell said on the Senate floor, shortly after Democrats unexpectedly united to block a vote to proceed to the bill that would give Obama that fast-track power, or Trade Promotion Authority.

In fact, Harry Reid is already hinting that he would be willing to pass the bill in exchange for some concessions [Reid offers plan to break trade impasse, by Burgess Everett and Manu Raju, Politico, May 12, 2015]. And Mitch McConell is eager to help out his good friend President Obama. He even gets little notes. How cute.
Republican Senate Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) boasted that he and President Obama are the new “odd couple” in Washington D.C., thanks to his ability to work closely with the president …

During a speech at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute in Boston, McConnell boasted that, like Kennedy and Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), he and Obama were a political “odd couple … “

McConnell also boasted that he was receiving “handwritten notes” from the president as a result of their new friendship.

“I had to warn reporters not to faint last week before offering the president some praise on trade,” he said. “I’m even getting handwritten notes from the president these days. He sent one the other day to thank me for supporting the nomination of Loretta Lynch.”

Remember when McConnell was desperately trying to appeal to conservatives during his unexpectedly close race in the midterms? With everything Obama is doing to our country and the increasingly hateful tone of the Left, do we really want someone passing adorable little letters back and forth as the leader of the opposition?

Without endorsing violence, needless to say, I'd prefer GOP leaders respond to cutesy notes from the Democrats this way.
