Former Mexican President Vicente Fox served as president of Mexico from 2000 to 2006 and was a big promoter of the Mexican invasion of the United States.Politically, Fox is now in the wilderness. It’s not just that he’s a former president.
In the 2012 Mexican election, Fox abandoned his PAN party and supported the PRI candidate (Enrique Pena Nieto) who won that election. Thus Fox alienated his own party.
Now Fox feels compelled to keep that old Vicente Fox brand alive. Plus, he just loves to hear himself talk and can’t keep his mouth shut.
So Vicente has been ranting about Donald Trump throughout the campaign, since the summer of 2015. For some examples, see here and here and here. Fox even worked with Nancy Pelosi to get more votes for Hillary. But Trump still won, and Vicente Fox is furious.
Vicente’s latest unhinged rant is in English, on the CNBC network. The former presidente calls Trump “an illegitimate president” and asserts that Trump “didn’t won [sic] the general election…”.
If you have the time, just click here and watch it, at least the first part, for entertainment value, if nothing else.
Here’s part of what Fox said:
…..in Mexico, we can be rude also. We are strong now. We're going to defend our people wherever they are. In Mexico, or outside of Mexico in the United States. We're not going to let this guy to offend them anymore. To offend the dignity, and also to deny the enormous contribution they make to the U.S. economy. As Fox speaks, a framed picture of himself and his wife is behind him on the wall. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it looks a little funny in this context.Vicente Fox Threatens "Illegitimate President" Trump: Mexico Will Defend Our People "Wherever They Are" Tim Haines, Real Clear Politics, November 16, 2016
And consider this — Vicente Fox’s grandfather was an immigrant from the United States. (A German-American — the original family name was Fuchs.) But it’s obvious from Fox’s speech that he’s not a native speaker of English. So Mexican assimilation worked very well with the Fox family, didn’t it?
