Univision Audio Teaser Distorts Marco Rubio’s Position, Making Him Seem Less Pro-Amnesty Than He Is

Marco Rubio was interviewed on Univision in Spanish, making his pro-amnesty position clear. See my previous blog entry Candidate Marco Rubio Tells Jorge Ramos, in Spanish, That Obama’s Unilateral Amnesty Is A Good Thing and Should Be Part of Permanent Amnesty Solution.

Well, here’s another interesting detail. In an audio headline on Univision, presenter Maria Elena Salinas informs viewers that " … en entrevista con Univisión, Marco Rubio dice que si llegara a la presidencia en algún momento, eliminaría DACA … ". In English, that would be translated as "in an interview with Univision, Marco Rubio says that if he arrives to the presidency at some point, he would eliminate DACA." (Univision Casts Rubio as 'The Bad Guy' Yuri Perez, Newsbusters, April 15, 2015)

That’s actually not correct. In the interview with Jorge Ramos, Rubio did not say he would end DACA,, what he actually said was that DACA would end. Rubio said it shouldn’t end immediately since it is benefiting people, but that it would end at some point. What Rubio wants is some sort of new law passed that would make DACA permanent And the candidate makes it quite clear that he thinks the millions of illegal aliens are staying as he says "No one is advocating a plan to deport 12 million people."

Thus, in that audio headline, Univision tries to make Rubio look less pro-amnesty than he really is, but when you listen to the interview or read a transcript of it, you can see that’s not the case.

If any of our readers who know Spanish would like to hear the interview, here it is:
