Terry Graham’s VDARE.COM article, "Bill Owens' Guide For Illegal Aliens: Cash In On Colorado!" has gotten results: Colorado Governor Bill Owens has pulled the guide from the Colorado Department of Education website.
We are quoted extensively and referred to by name in the Washington Times. [Colorado unplugs online guide for illegal immigrants, by Valerie Richardson]
We are also quoted extensively, but not referred to by name, in Al Knight’s column in the Denver Post; Knight is good on immigration, but he may find us …embarrassing. However, he has a point on the latest euphemism for illegal alien: "Recent arrival." [New way to say same thing By Al Knight]
We've decided to post a copy of it on our website for archival purposes, in the interest of showing that on the Internet, you can run but you can’t hide. [See here, for document in PDF format.]
The Denver Post also published a story on Owens taking down the guide to illegals, with a slightly different spin:
Guide for immigrants pulled from state website. The document informed people of their Miranda rights and situations where others could not ask their immigration status, By Felisa Cardona, Denver Post, February 1, 2005.
Note the reference to "Miranda rights": The late Ernesto Miranda was a Hispanic armed robber and rapist who was granted a retrial after the Supreme Court found that the police hadn’t informed him of his rights: "He was paroled in 1972, and died in 1976 at the age of 34, after being stabbed in a bar fight. A suspect was arrested but chose to exercise his right to remain silent, and was released."
As expected, the President came out for his guest worker plan in the State of the Union Speech: Here’s the quote:
America’s immigration system is also outdated — unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with laws that punish hardworking people who want only to provide for their families, and deny businesses willing workers, and invite chaos at our border. It is time for an immigration policy that permits temporary guest workers to fill jobs Americans will not take, that rejects amnesty, that tells us who is entering and leaving our country, and that closes the border to drug dealers and terrorists.
Paul Begala wrote on the CNN blog that "The president calls for liberalizing immigration laws — allowing illegal immigrants to stay here. That’s usually death for a Republican, but he’s doing it. Good for him."
What’s really death for a Republican is seeking and getting the approval of the Paul Begalas of this world.
