VDARE.COM Memo To MidWestern Media

Abraham Lincoln, you recall, said, "Let the people know the facts, and the country will be safe." Well, OK, maybe that was just wishful thinking.

Since early this year there have been two bills of critical importance working their way through the Illinois General Assembly. The first would give drivers licenses to illegal aliens; the second would require Illinois to accept Mexico’s bogus matricula consular as legitimate identification. Both bills could be voted on as early as next week.

But so far there have been no news stories or editorials about either from the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times or the Daily Herald. All three papers have reporters in the state capital (Springfield), so one is left wondering why the total silence, particularly in light of what the passage of the REAL ID Act would do to those 11 states that already give licenses to illegals.

Is it too much to ask the print media to provide their readers with such information so that something resembling an open dialog can take place about the wisdom of rewarding criminal activity and the meddling of the Mexican government in our state’s affairs?

Perhaps VDARE.COM’s Illinois readers can light a fire under some of our snoozing Chicago-area journalists by dropping a note to those who can make a difference? At the Chicago Tribune: Public Editor N. Don Wycliff; Springfield Correspondent Christi Parsons; Chicago Sun-Times: Editor John Barron; Ben Fischer ; Daily Herald: Editorial Page Editor Dave Beery ; Managing Editor Eileen Brown .
