In July, Sen Jim Webb (D-VA) argued that while Affirmative action programs should stay to American blacks, they should not go towards other non-white groups. Web noted:"many programs allow recently arrived immigrants to move ahead of similarly situated whites whose families have been in the country for generations. These programs have damaged racial harmony. And the more they have grown, the less they have actually helped African-Americans, the intended beneficiaries of affirmative action as it was originally conceived."
[Diversity and the Myth of White Privilege, James Webb, Wall Street Journal, July 22, 2010]
I oppose all affirmative action programs. But if we must have them, it makes sense to exclude immigrants.
According to the Pew Hispanic Center, [PDF] 85% of all illegal aliens are Non Asian Minorities. They will be eligible for affirmative action programs in most states.
If the DREAM Act passes, massive numbers of illegal aliens will get yet another advantage over American citizens.
This should make us wonder why, then, does Jim Webb appear to be supporting the DREAM Act.
Much of the opposition to the DREAM Act has been based on the idea that many of the illegal aliens eligible will not actually be going to colleges and are just GED Students. However, as usual, VDARE.com will go a step further. In my next piece, I will examine how having an increasing number of young people from a legally-privileged racial group is a bad idea in and of itself.
