As noted previously, support for Trump among young white men is markedly higher than identification with the Republican party is. This is less the case with older men and even less so still with women, where support for Trump closely tracks Republican party identification:
Put in another way, it appears as though younger white men will become more supportive of the GOP in general if it moves in a Trumpian direction. If instead the party establishment continues to move Trump its way, it’s difficult to see where any growth in Republican support is going to come from. The prediction that Trump ends up being the last Republican president ever elected increasingly looks like a good one.
