Virginia Tech Hokies soccer Player Kiersten Hening is not your average college student. In September of 2020, the midfield player refused to kneel during a pre-game “unity statement” in support of Black Lives Matter. Following her act of bravery, head coach Charles Adair revoked Hening’s starting spot on the team, and reportedly verbally harassed her during halftime. Later Hening would be benched and encouraged to quit playing for the Hokies.

These events led to a 2021 lawsuit alleging that Adair had violated Hening’s first amendment right to freedom of expression. Hening wrote in her lawsuit that she “does not support BLM” as an organization due to the “tactics and core tenets of its mission statement, including defunding the police”.

Virginia Tech attempted to get the case dismissed, a motion that was disregarded by the judge who noted a dramatic decrease in Hening’s playtime following the incident.

A settlement was finally reached which included $100,000 to be awarded to Hening.

Paul Kersey writes for VDARE.com:

Courage is contagious. In the near future, the soccer stadium at Virginia Tech will be renamed in honor of Kiersten Hening.
