A diverse studio audience (representative of America’s immigrant class) hears a discussion of immigration. Did the policy makers of the 1965 immigration act predict it’s outcome? Peter says that the skill level of immigrants was not fully understood, and the act would not have gotten through if Americans were aware of the low-skill make-up of post-1965 immigrants. Outlining the effects of chain-migration allowed by the 1965 immigration act, Peter expresses a concern for the future of American identity. Immigrants and citizens from LA give heated opinions on job displacement. Peter insists there is no macro-economic gain from immigration into the US.
