It all happened at a gas station and liquor store in Independence, Missouri, just outside of Kansas City. Witnesses say the fight started after 23-year-old Ja’Von L. Taylor started an argument with the store clerk. Santi told Taylor to leave the business, and that’s when the two men stepped outside.
A cell phone video partially captured the brawl that erupted in the parking lot soon after.
Taylor’s girlfriend is seen standing beside the two men while waving a handgun. She eventually shoots Santi, killing him.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s office recently announced that Taylor’s girlfriend would not be facing charges as Missouri is a stand your ground state, meaning citizens have no expectation to retreat before using defensive force.
However, the handgun was actually Taylor’s. As the Daily Mail writes: Taylor was charged with armed robbery in 2019 and should not have been in possession of a firearm.

Paul Kersey writes:
Tony Santi didn’t enter a liquor store knowing he’d soon be shot in the back by a black woman, as he tried to stop angry black male from yelling at a clerk all over an insufficient stock of cigars. But if he had read Derbyshire’s The Talk: The Nonblack Version, he’d have known simply to leave the store and not intervene.
