Re: Richard Khamsi’s Letter: A California Reader Is Threatened With Violence At A May Day Rally
Regarding Khamsi’s observation that many Che flags flew at the May Day rally he attended in Eureka, CA., I wonder if Mexicans know that in private Che (an archetypical haughty Argentine) was a notorious racist, referring to Mexicans as a "band of illiterate Indians," and to Bolivians as "little animals."
It’s all documented in interviews with his former revolutionary comrades in my books Fidel; Hollywood’s Favorite Tyrant and in my forthcoming Che
Interestingly Miami, with its large foreign born but mostly legal population, did not have any protests. Chicano activists are bitching about it.
Cuban-born Fontova holds an M.A. in history from Tulane University and in addition to his book about Fidel Castro is also the author of The Hellpig Hunt: A Hunting Adventure in the Wild Wetlands at the Mouth of the Mississippi River by Middle-Aged Lunatics Who Refuse to Grow Up and Helldivers' Rodeo
