The UCLA controversy involving the white coed and the Asians occupying the library reminded me of my 20 year old niece who lives in the dorms at a Midwestern public university. She said her dorms have designated study areas but black students chat loudly on their cell phones all night. She asked them to observe the rules against noise in the study areas and all she got back were surly retorts. I cautioned her that if she pushed any harder she would be the one in trouble. My niece’s ancestry is white and Christian Middle Eastern.
