07/18/10 — A Tennessee Reader Says Tea Party Candidates Need To Wake Up About Immigration
From: John Pershing
According to a July report released by the Migratory Policy Institute, DREAM versus Reality: An Analysis of Potential DREAM Act Beneficiaries, California is home to 26 percent (roughly 553,000 college age students) of the 2.1 million illegal alien youths in America who might qualify for instate tuition under the DREAM Act.
The study used data from the 2006 and 2008 federal Current Population Survey, along with 2000 Census findings to estimate the child and young adult population.
In addition, the report found that another 934,000 potential beneficiaries are still younger than 18 and could therefore become eligible to benefit from the DREAM Act if and when they complete high school.
My question is how would an additional 1.5 million aliens paying discounted instate tuition to enroll in state universities help bankrupt California? A better idea would be to intensify recruiting among out-of-state Americans eager to attend the prestigious UC university system that would have to pay the full, maximum freight.
