James Fulford’s blog item "African-Americans", The Oscars, And PC
From Professor Of Mystery
By James Fulford mentioned 12 Years A Slave director Steve McQueen being called an “African-American”, when he’s actually from the UK.
I teach art history for my sins. (Funnily enough, Steve McQueen CBE actually started in the art world.) Anyway, I have the students write a compare-and-contrast-on various monuments. One of my favorite assignments is to compare the "Sphinx of Taharqo" [from the Sudan, 680 BC] and Ramesses II statuary.
If I had a dollar for every time the students call King Taharqo an African American I'd be able to retire.
Who knew that the 25th Dynasty rulers, while quite clearly black, were also AA hires!?
