Reflecting on the National Question, and the condition of our nation at present, I've been inclined on many occasions to suggest that "America is beginning to feel like a marriage that doesn’t make sense anymore."
I've found that this, more than anything else, strikes a visceral tone in otherwise unsympathetic ears.
With the divorce rate what it is, why not take advantage of such associations? As Rousseau once remarked, there is a crucial difference between convincing and persuading. The National Question is too important for anything but the latter.
Just a thought.
