Greece Building The Wall. Why Can’t We?

Earlier: Border Walls Work … All Over The World

One of the most underreported stories of this campaign is America’s inability to control our NATO "ally," Turkey. President Tayyip Erdogan has steered his country into several regional conflicts, including adventurism in northern Syria and assisting Azerbaijan against Armenia [Armenian president: 'Turkey has a completely destructive role in Nagorno-Karabakh, by Stephanie Antoine, France24, October 19, 2020].

Armenia was the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as its state religion, but most American Christians aren’t paying attention to the beleaguered state. The legacy of American interventionism in the Middle East over the last several decades, what should be called the Reverse Crusades, may be the final destruction of Christianity in its birthplace [Where is your brother? How Christians are failing the Armenian people, by Joel Veldkamp, The Christian Post, October 17, 2020].

Turkey also poses a direct threat to Europe itself. It has long weaponized migration as a weapon against the West, an implicit admission that these migrants are a burden, not a benefit. Western Civilization’s birthplace in Greece has suffered the most. However, its government has devised a solution. Stop me if you've heard this one before.

Greece’s government says it has finalized plans to build a wall along its northeast border with Turkey, over concerns that migrants may try to stage mass crossings into the European Union country.

Government spokesman Stelios Petsas said Monday that 26 kilometers (16 miles) of wall would be added to an existing 10-kilometer (six-mile) section of fence in a 63-million-euro ($74 million) project due to be completed by the end of April.

A standoff occurred at the border earlier this year after Turkey said it would no longer prevent migrants trying to reach the EU, and tens of thousands tried to cross into Greece …

Turkey hosts the largest number of refugees worldwide, at nearly 4 million people, mostly from Syria, according to the U.N. Refugee Agency.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the border region on Saturday after a test installation of a section of the new wall.

It’s not fair to say President Donald Trump has done nothing on immigration. He has done quite a lot, though not enough. However, while has built some new wall, we didn’t get The Wall, the "powerful" wall of rebar and steel, which he promised would be built "very quickly." He also promised Mexico would pay for it … which could have been easily accomplished by taxing remittances.

The Wall wasn’t just a specific tool to crack down on immigration. It was also to be a statement about America’s desire to remain sovereign, independent, and free. Unfortunately, we are not those things. President Trump has, in truth, turned Mexico itself into "the wall" in some ways, a largely unreported achievement. However, in the end, there must be a physical wall if current diplomatic arrangements break down.

Walls work. Ask Israel. Or Hungary [Hungary credits razor wire border fence for almost 100 percent drop in illegal migration, Russia Today, September 18, 2017]. Or Jordan (which you paid for). And soon, Greece.
