Letter Warns Illegal Aliens About Voter Fraud — Writer Could Go To Jail

Out here in California, somebody took it upon themselves (because state and federal officials will not) to send a letter to an unknown number of recipients warning them of the penalties for illegal aliens should they vote in the upcoming election.

[Note warns Calif. Hispanics on voting, Associated Press 10/17/06]

The letter was written in Spanish and said:

"You are advised that if your residence in this country is illegal or you are an immigrant, voting in a federal election is a crime that could result in jail time."

Clearly, the author was referring to illegal immigrants and immigrants who are lawfully in the country but not citizens and therefore not eligible to vote — immigrants who become citizens can obviously vote.

Some nitwit named Benny Diaz (a candidate for City Council in Garden Grove, Ca) had this response:

"It’s a very malicious and degrading letter. It’s to pull Latinos down and make them afraid … "

Email Benny … please.

Why is the concept of illegal immigration so difficult to grasp? American citizens who happen to be Latino should not be phased by this letter … illegal immigrants however, should pay attention.

Not surprisingly, MALDEF is all over the situation and the Office of the Attorney General also made a statement … a spokesperson for Attorney General Bill Lockyer said "the sender could be charged with a felony and receive up to three years in state prison."[Complain to Lockyer]

Hmm … so basically, the punishment for sending a letter that warns illegal aliens about the potential penalty for voter fraud is three years in prison.

The punishment for illegal entry into the United States is … well, nothing.

For the love of creatures great and small … this is getting embarassing.
