November 20th — Centennial of the Mexican Revolution

By Allan Wall

11/20/2010

This year, 2010, Mexico celebrates both its Bicentennial and its Centennial. How is that possible?

In Mexican history, the War of Independence and the Revolution are two distinct historical periods. The Bicentennial commemorates the beginning of what became the Mexican Independence Movement in 1810. The Centennial celebrates the Mexican Revolution, which began on November 20th, 1910.

It’s convenient for students of Mexican history, as it makes it easier to remember when the two movements began.
