The Southern Poverty Law Center ($PLC to us) has honored VDARE.com with another attack: Arizona Debate Unleashes New “Reconquista’ Accusations By Sonia Scherr May 5, 2010.
Some of the most overheated rhetoric came from Peter Brimelow, the British immigrant who runs the anti-immigrant hate site VDARE.com. In a VDARE.com post last week titled “Help VDARE.COM Resist [Raul] Grijalva’s Reconquista!,” Brimelow vilifies the U.S. representative from Arizona who vowed at a Phoenix rally to “overturn the power structure that created this unjust, racist law.” Brimelow asserts that “Grijalva is not an immigrant but a Mexican colonizer and what he’s against is not the “power structure’ — he’s against America."
Since Grijalva sports a resounding NumbersUSA F- career ranking on Immigration control issues, and has made it abundantly clear that he is against any border policing, this is in fact a totally reasonable comment. Reasonableness has no meaning for Scherr — only Political Correctness matters.
A number of Patriots have bothered to contest this complaint on the comment thread:
1. Steven Terrell, Sr. said,ON MAY 6TH, 2010 AT 6:03 PM Could someone please explain to me how Mexico “claimed this land? I can tell you. They slaughtered the American Indians, took them as slaves, and stole the land. If Reconquista is such a myth, how come La Voz de Aztalan has a web page dedicate to it? How come every time the Mexicans march in our streets they (carry) signs that state they are going to take back our southwest? Reconquista isn’t a myth. It’s a fact.
A poster “Mr. Common Sense” worked particularly hard.
The SPLC also names the Patriots Coalition, American Border Patrol, and Jim Gilchrist of the Minuteman Project.
Conspicuous by their absence: the fat cats of the immigration restraint cause — FAIR, CIS, and NumbersUSA. This is because these three lack the courage to formulate the immigration problem as an issue of ethnic interest — even though to do so is totally legitimate and in fact the most effective way of starting the grass roots firestorms which are the only thing which deters the Inside-the-Beltway crowd from slavishly obeying the Treason Lobby.
Can’t risk those DC cocktail party invitations!
Reason has a valuable account of the threatening dishonesty of the $PLC’s pet project The Myth of the Menacing Militias Jesse Walker May 5 2010. Walker employs the term “Brown Scare” to describe these periodic attempts to repress the Right
Like the better-known Red Scares, but pointing rightwards rather than leftwards, a Brown Scare both exaggerates the threats at hand and obscures the distinctions between genuinely violent plotters, radical but peaceful activists, and members of the mainstream. You can see such a mindset at work in the SPLCs watch list.
The primary purpose of the SPLC, of course, is to prevent any development of a self-preservation instinct of the part of America’s founding peoples. A Justice Kagan will be eager to help.
