I see on Twitter that the Mexican Ambassador To The United States, Arturo Sarukhan, saysArturo_Sarukhan Mexico’s Labor Secretary Javier Lozano is being honoured today by the US Chamber of Commerce 12 minutes ago via webOf course, my first thought was that from the point of view of the Mexican Ambassador, that is so much the better for the Mexican Labor Secretary. From the point of view of Americans, it’s so much the worse for the Chamber of Commerce, a major player in "cheap labor" lobbying.
But the Ambassador has it slightly wrong — Secretary Lozano is not being honored by the US Chamber of Commerce, but by the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce (C??mara de Comercio M?©xico-Estados Unidos), a binational body for promoting that is having an expensive conference in Washington today. Here are some samples of their schedule:
They are also having panels on ”Transportation, Infrastructure & Energy in North America” — which means Mexican trucks and the NAFTA Superhighway, and “U.S.-Mexico Security Cooperation”Beyond the Merida Initiative" which means not building a border fence. One of the panelists at the last one is Luis Alvarez, DHS Acting Director for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the Obama Administration.”Labor Mobility & Immigration Reform”
