Cruz: An American first?
I give the born-again Drudge Report full credit for carrying for over 24 hours a link to Ted Cruz Seeks to Ban Illegal Immigrants in U.S. from Citizenship by Rebekah Meltzer U.S.News and World Report May 8, 2012Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a newly elected Republican with a penchant for making headlines, filed an amendment that would bar undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States from ever earning citizenship.(VDARE.com emphasis)
What Cruz is proposing here is the entirely reasonable Swiss solution. As I observed in Swiss Prefer Switzerland Swiss the nationals of this immensely successful country accommodate a legally resident alien population proportionately larger than America’s politically by almost never giving them citizenship. (They do not allow Judges to overthrow referendum results and their laws either.)
Of course, if the Democrats were interested a compassionate solution to a human problem rather than using immigration to elect a New People, they would not object to the Cruz idea. (VDARE.com hopes he addresses the Birthright Citizenship loophole too.)
Cruz has other ideas, as the industrious Daniel Horowitz noted yesterday on RedState in Ted Cruz Lays Down Gauntlet on Immigration Bill
I have had doubts about Cruz — but not about his intellect: he was practically unique amongst GOP leaders last year to call for challenging Obama’s Administrative Amnesty on what would have been popular Constitutional grounds.
This is very bad news for the Treason Lobby/GOP Establishment Division. Operating on their strange principle of preferring Minority leadership aspirants, they have been benign to Cruz, thinking he was another Rubio.
His turning out to be an American rather a professional Hispanic would be a real problem for them.
